Gospel Music is a Spiritual Battle, Not Just a Show, Says Esther Smith

Renowned gospel singer Esther Smith is sounding a warning: gospel music isn’t just about performing—it’s a spiritual battle that demands serious commitment.

In an interview on Adom TV ahead of her upcoming concert at the Perez Dome this Friday, Smith opened up about her own encounters with spiritual attacks and stressed the importance of being spiritually prepared as a gospel singer.

“Gospel ministration is a spiritual exercise,” Smith explained. “When I sing songs like ‘Have faith in God and He will change your situation,’ if I’m not spiritually strong, I’m at risk. The negative spirit affecting someone listening to my song can turn against me.”

Smith pointed out that spiritual attacks are a common challenge for gospel artists, and she warned that those pursuing fame in this field could be putting themselves at risk.

“Gospel singers must take their spiritual lives seriously because this work is tough,” she advised.

Smith also shared some recent challenges her team faced while organizing her concert, which she sees as spiritual attacks. “During our preparations, we had a few incidents. On the day of our Kumasi concert, our car’s front tires burst just before we got to the venue. And after the show, we found a black fowl with wet feathers on our car, even though there were many other cars parked nearby.”

Despite these unnerving experiences, Smith remains firm in her faith. She believes that with God’s protection, she can overcome any obstacle. “Gospel ministration is not easy, but with God’s protection, we always overcome these obstacles,” she said with confidence.
