The 7 Christian Attributes (Values)
First of all before delving into the 7 Christian Attributes (Values), it is important to define the two terms “Attributes” and “Values”.
What is Attribute?
Attribute is the ability to demonstrate some certain characteristics ascribed to a person, thing either in group or individually.
What is Value?
Value is the way in which something, person or religion etc is been treated, cared for or demand of, in respect to the level of importance attached to it.Looking at the above definitions, Christian Attributes (Values) the those way of life or characteristics that set Christians apart from unbelievers inherently from christ.
Another way to look at this, it to come to the knowledge of the place believers were first referred to as Christians, and how it come about.
“26and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”. Acts 11:26 kjv.
The believers were first called Christian in Antioch and that name did not just arise from nothing but because, the deciples lived a Christlike life which could be seen through the characteristics they exhibit and how the level of value they attached to it, as the wouldn’t stop even at the face of persecution and trials.
Of What Importance Are The Christian Attributes And Why Should One Have The Knowledge Of Those Attributes.
“For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:8 kjv.
Knowing the Christian Attributes it’s like having the key to a door, and the only hindrance standing before a man and the door it’s himself, because knowing the Christian Attributes does not just open the door but how committed is on ready to hold on to this attributes.
For instance, Man invented a car to serve a particular purpose on earth, and that is to convey you & me to wherever destination we are headed to; as a means of Mobility or rather transit.
So if man only creates to serve a purpose, why then would you think God’s intend of creation was any different? Most people on earth live the way they do because they are ignorant of the fact of Gods intentions to bringing them into existence.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:26 kjv
It’s very important to pay attention to the first and second statement God made.He first said; let us make man in our image after our likeness. This is what only God can do.Secondly he said, and let them have dominion over everything.
Not that his second statement was no longer let us as in the case of the first, but let them.Meaning God had done his part, which was creating you and now he is letting you know that he created you to have total control over the earth, of which he deliberately secluded himself out of the Mandate.
“The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.” Psalms 115:16 kjv
So you were created by God himself as an extension of his dominion here on earth, and the only way to be productive as an ambassador of heaven. It means there are certain attributes and values, expected of us as Christians; which grant him access to empower you as his ambassador with supernatural capacity to dominate and rule here in his stead.
What Are The 7 Christian Attributes (Values)
in this article we are going to outline this attributes according to the book of 2nd Peter 1:5-6.

“And besides this, giving all diligence, add to our faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our lord Jesus Christ.”
And verse 21 made us fully aware that God himself revealed these virtues through Apostle Peter.
The 7 Christian Attributes (Values) are: Virtue, Knowledge, Temperance, Patience, Godliness, Brotherly Kindness, and Charity.
Now let’s briefly expand these Christian virtuous in the above Scripture.
Virtue
This is a good moral quality in a person, or the general quality of being morally good. It should be a habitual and firm disposition to give the best of you to humanity. And would be the only way unbelievers become attracted to the kingdom you represent; which is of God. And he that wins souls is wise, according to (proverbs 11:30).

Knowledge

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Genuine Godly happiness comes from knowing less irrelevance’s; and more of God. Hosea 4:6
it is only lack of Knowledge that makes a prince walk on foot while servants ride on horses according to
Believers don’t know their authority and dominance in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, that is why they compromise with evil and end up serving what was meant for them to dispel and rule over.
Remember! It was through knowledge that Daniel delivered the Israelites, by knowing through the book he acquired knowledge from when their desolation was to end. If not they would have remained in bondage for a long time. (Daniel 9:2).
Temperance
This is the emotional restraint or self-control God expects from us. Many have fallen short of Gods Glory in applying self-control in their lives.
“for the grace of God that bring salvation has appeared to all men. Teaching us that denying Ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” Titus 2:11-12
God gave you a free will not be used against him, for he made you in his image, as Gods on earth.
Psalms 82:6 – “ye are gods; and all of you children of the most high.”
Remember where lack of self-control landed the strongest man ever lived on the face of the earth; Samson. (Judges 16:1-30).
Patience
This is the ability to wait without becoming annoyed, upset, or angry. The reason why Abraham and Job are still revered as the greatest of the patriarch was because of the quantity of patience the exercised even in the antediluvian Era when there was less knowledge of God.
Romance 8:28 -” Everything work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.”
The more you understand the reality and validity of this scripture in your life, the more patient you become in your life dealings with God and means well. Abraham was patient with God for 25 years before his promise came to past. David was anointed King but was patient with Saul for 12years before he became king; Job as taken away despite his wives carnal persuasions to make him offend God. (Job 1:1-22 & 2:1-13 & 40:1-17).
Godliness

This is the reverent awareness of God’s Sovereignty over every aspect of life and the attendant determination to honor him in all ones conduct. God expects us to conform into the laws and wishes in his winds. He expects us to be devoted and always raise the flag of moral uprightness
Psalms 14:1 – “A fool hath said in his heart there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
The scripture above makes it clear that only a fool does ungodly things. In other words, the wise strife to be Godly.
Ask yourself the question; how can you be relevant in your assignment without the endorsement of the God that sent you? The more convection you keep with God, the higher your chances of ambassadorial excellence.
Brotherly Kindness
This means to be selfless, Compassionate and Merciful; not only to our loved ones, but to our enemies as well, and that is where the greatest power is revealed. Jesus Christ must be our perfect emblem of biblical kindness
(Genesis 19:1-25) from this passage, we know that lots kindness towards the angels he saw at the gate, delivered him from being destroyed with the rest of the inhabitants of Sodom. Jesus Christ himself prayed forgiveness over his enemies that crucified him.
Luke 23:34 – “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do. And the divided his garments and cast lots.”
Kindness towards others opens doors of opportunities for you to attract unbelievers to draw near and want to know the God you serve.
Charity
This is the highest form of love, signifying the reciprocal love between Good and Man that is made manifest in unselfish love of one’s fellow men.
“If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” 1st Corinthians 13:1-5
Here, Apostle Paul makes us understand that no matter what you do, without love you are nothing.
Colossians 3:23 – “whatsoever you do, do it heartily as to the lord, and not unto men.”
Out perfect example made us to understand in Mark 12:30-31 – “Thou shalt love the lord your God; with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment: the second is like unto the first”.
You shall love your neighbors as yourself. There are no other commandments greater than these.
