History of the McKameys

The McKameys is a trio gospel music group formed by three sisters, Dora Mckamey, Peg McKamey Bean and Carol McKamey.

Although the groups suppose to perform once at their home church as requested by Dora. It did not just end there, but extended to other churches, revivals and getting invitations to perform by out-of-town evangelist. That exceed their initial expectations and imagination.

We just thought we were gona sing that one time in our home church, but different people heard us and invited us to sing at their church or revivals. Then out of town evangelist heard us at the revival and invited us to come to their church”. Peg McKamey

In 1957, Ruben Bean a guitarist started playing for the group, who would later get married to Peg. In 1972 Dora and Carol retired from the group and their parts were occupied by Connie and Sheryl.

Sheryl got married and went to leave with her husband in the mid 1980’s. Carol return to the group and replaced Sheryl, she took along her husband, Roger Fortner also joined the group as a guitarist

The continued to perform together until Carol officially retired from fulltime touring in April 2009. Carol was replaced by the return of Sheryl. Eli Fortner, the son to Roger and Connie Fortner in 2007 joined the group fulltime on-stage playing guitar and also as a featured vocalist.
